STANDISH CAMPAIGN DAY!

Fabulous Campaign Day!

Several Wigan CLP Members came to help out at our Campaign Day this weekend.  What a positive day for Labour!  After more than doubling our membership in the Ward, new members turned out to help too.

After events of the week we chose the Ashfield Park area and spoke to about 200 residents in the area as well as delivering 100s of leaflets.

All who we spoke to understood that Wigan Council have no intention of allowing building on Ashfield Park and the constant statements to the contrary from G Fairhurst are now beginning to irritate people, others are dismissing his comments saying 'they have heard it all before'. Several residents were among those who had donated to his fund and are now asking for published, audited accounts of where the money has been spent.   Come on Gareth publish the accounts!
We have taken note of several problems and will be working with the Council to help these residents, one of which had attended 2 surgeries in Standish and was totally disappointed at the lack of help on offer!

We have also been hearing stories of Standish residents visiting other Ward surgeries to ask for help - Standish deserves better than this!  One Standish resident turned up at a recent surgery in Standish Library only to find that one of the Independent Councillors had only stayed for 25 minutes not the promised hour as advertised!

As always, it is always nice to speak to people, some old friends and many new ones. Thank you all for taking the time to talk to us!
